Click here to see the sign-up / commitment form for Dickens Village 2011. That sign-up form will give you a pretty good idea of how many opportunities there are to serve, and just how big Dickens Village will be growing this year! As a matter of fact, you will see that we are offering “two” three day weekends of Dickens fun, December 2,3,4, and December 9,10,11, starting at 6pm each evening! Given the fact that we had such large crowds of over 4000 people last year, we felt not only the need but the desire to create more opportunity for what we anticipate “twice the crowds” to be this year!
We need a larger number of people involved this year to bring this expanded Dickens village to life! Many, many people have shared over the years their deep appreciation to Heritage for bringing such a heart-warming outreach program to this community! In many cases we have realized that Dickens Village was the VERY FIRST introduction visitors had to our church!
Therefore we feel it is so important that we develop and expand this wonderful outreach ministry to influence more people in a positive and quality way! We need you to begin to give serious thought to joining and/or returning to the effort of Dickens Village, and make it a big part of your service to this church and community this year! Perhaps you are a life group member here at Heritage, or considering joining a life group. If so, we want to also encourage life groups to commit to Dickens village! You may recall that during our S2 service project emphasis last year, many life groups committed to various projects in the Dickens Village as their S2 commitment.
Dickens Village has been a great and long-running tradition of Heritage Christian Church, and has drawn the community together year after year for a warm and inviting nostalgic Christmas experience! Now, this year we bring this great tradition to the next level, as we expand not only the physical layout of the Village, but we bring the story to its full conclusion! If you look on the website, you will see a layout of the new Village Square. Without getting too detailed today, we just want you to see the larger scale Dickens Village will grow to this year, to include the large area of new concrete walkway just outside our worship center, that now completes a square which we have now named “Village Square” here at Heritage! We give thanks to the tireless efforts of Mike Stille, Aaron Faulkner (Agri Pro), Dixie Warren (Dixie Sod), Clay Cook and the labor of so many of our volunteers to see this become a reality this year!
We not only have larger shop areas by using all “train car” shipping containers, but we will have a complete enclosed town square, with north, south, east, and west avenues. Many of the containers will have second level facades to give the illusion of actual two story buildings. The town square will include a chapel building, in which people will enter to find a three staged live Nativity scene. The tower on our worship center will be converted into a giant “Big Ben” backlit clock, street lights will be at each corner of the square, and the center grass area of the town square will hold an enormous 50 foot string light frame Christmas Tree!
Sounds exciting…don’t you think?
The storyline and acting will also grow this year, as many of the scenes from the traditional story “A Christmas Carol” that are set outside in the town square will be staged with lighting and script in our “Village Square” as people are passing through. Scrooge, Bob Cratchitt, Tiny Tim, and others will act out their first roles of each evening among the visiting audiences and a cast of roaming actors in the collective shops and avenues of the Village. Then, those designated acting teams A or B of roaming casts will usher into this Worship Center (decorated like an old candlelit English opera house), with large audience groups to participate in an indoor stage/musical production of the rest of the story of “A Christmas Carol…..the visit of the three Ghosts of Christmas!” Each night will be a continuous cycle of Village acting teams A and B, rotating through the Dickens Village, to inside the worship center, and back out into the Village! And, as an additional bonus this year, we wlll cast all the teens and middle schoolers as rotating teams C and D of beggars and peddlers in the parking lot center road area leading up the the Village entrance! So, this year Dickens Village becomes an unbroken level of activity and staged drama to keep everyone, audience included, in the character of the story!
As you can see, there is a place for everyone to be involved, from children, to youth, to adults, to Life Groups, and to entire families! Make your commitment now to this great outreach ministry today!
