Help for Haiti

By Heritage • January 15th, 2010

childDear Heritage Family,

In light of the devastating earthquake in Haiti on Tuesday, many of you have asked the staff and Elders if there is anything we can do as a church family to assist in getting aid to Haiti. We want you to know that we are 100% committed to helping in the relief effort financially, and we are diligently looking for the best method for assuring our donations go completely and swiftly to the relief effort.

handsThis coming Sunday, January 17th, there will be an opportunity for you to personally contribute to the relief effort via a special offering that will be collected during both of our morning services. This offering is a great way we can team together to “be the church” above and beyond our normal tithes. Please make special offering checks out to Heritage Christian as all donations will be designated specifically for this emergency relief effort. In addition, you can also visit the “Online Giving” page on our website and designate your donation for the “Haiti Relief Fund.”

At this time, our staff and Elders are continuing to research and interview potential recipients of the cash gift from the congregation of Heritage Christian Church. We want our contribution to go to Christian ministries that already have a presence in Haiti and that are equipped to assist in immediate disaster relief. Although it has not been finalized, the current choice for our contribution is the International Disaster Emergency Service. IDES has the unique combination of being a mission that works hand-in-hand with the brotherhood of Independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, as well as a mission that already has a presence in Haiti with teams and missionaries in the field on a daily basis. You can read more about IDES at their web site www.IDES.org

We can also assist, of course, by continuing to lift up prayers for the people of Haiti, the rescue teams that are trying valiantly to reach them, the missionaries and medical teams that are already on the ground in Haiti. We also pray for the leaders of the Haitian government to assure swift and wise decisions for the health of their country, and for the many people living in America and throughout the rest of the world who have loved ones in Haiti at this very time.

We look forward to sharing more details of how this special offering will be used on Sunday. Over the months ahead, the people of Haiti will need on-going assistance, and our mission ministry is already looking at how we might be able to send a team (or teams) to Haiti to be “hands-on” in the reconstruction and rehabilitation process.

We Join You in Your Prayers,

Your Elder Team
